A comprehensive data-protection law with detailed regulations

Oman's PDPL took effect on 13 February 2023, and Ministerial Decision 34/2024 issued its Executive Regulation with an adjustment period for organizations to comply.[1][2]

Cross-border transfers are conditional

Articles 37 to 40 of the Executive Regulation set consent or exception conditions, require protection no lower than Oman's and call for an assessment of transfer risks.[2]

Government policy on safe and ethical AI

MTCIT published a general policy for the safe and ethical use of AI systems in April 2025, alongside a national programme for AI and advanced digital technologies for 2024–2026.[3][4]
