The local landscape
What organizations should know before designing AI workflows here — each point linked to its source.
A recent comprehensive data-protection law
Jordan's PDPL took effect on 17 March 2024. Existing processing received a 12-month period to comply; this was not a blanket exemption for new data or new companies.[1]
Transfers must keep an equivalent level of protection
Article 15 restricts transfers to recipients offering less protection than the law requires, subject to statutory exceptions.[2]
02
What it means for your AI programme
Juthūr's recommendations based on the landscape above.
- 01
Treat compliance as current, not future
With the PDPL in force, document lawful basis, transfers and retention for any AI workflow that touches personal data.
- 02
Use the ethics charter as a design checklist
Fairness, transparency, accountability and human oversight are easier to build in from the start than to retrofit.
- 03
Invest in practical skills
Pair each pilot with role-based training so teams own the new way of working rather than depending on outside help.

Frequently asked questions
Does Jordan's PDPL apply to company data?
MoDEE explains that the law protects the personal data of natural persons, not corporate or legal-entity data. Customer and employee data used by AI tools is therefore in scope. This page is not legal advice.
Does Juthūr work with organizations in Amman?
Yes. We work with organizations in Jordan in Arabic and English, beginning with a free consultation to understand the business.
Can we use international AI services from Jordan?
Usually, provided transfers meet the PDPL's requirements, including equivalent protection or an applicable exception. Map the data first.
Where should a Jordanian company start?
With two or three measurable workflows, a baseline, a redesigned process and a bounded pilot — plus training for the team that will own it.
